8.6 State Disability Insurance
Sometimes, you may suffer an illness or outside of the workplace that prevents you from working and earning income. If this happens to you, state disability insurance may provide you with a percentage of your wages while you are unable to work. State disability insurance also may provide a percentage of your wages for a specified period following the birth of a child, and occasionally, prior to that if ordered by your doctor. All employees are eligible for this coverage and pay for it through deductions from their paychecks.
