13.5 Sexual Abuse /Molestation Prevention and Reporting

The safety of our students is our top priority, and we provide training to all of our employees on how to identify students who may be victims of sexual abuse or molestation. All Play-Well employees are legally mandated reporters of sexual abuse / molestation, and are required to follow the procedures outlined here.

You are required to conduct yourself professionally at all times with our students and clients — the following procedures are mandatory:

  • Closed door meetings with a student are prohibited. Never interact alone with a student - always interact while in the presence of others; if you do find yourself alone with a student, keep the door open and stay visible.
  • Always supervise all of your students - you are responsible for their safety until their parent arrives to pick them up.
  • Never hug or strike a student or be physically intimate with them — a high-five, fist bump or a light touch on the arm or shoulder is OK.
  • Never discuss subjects with your students that contain sexually suggestive topics, including any personal experiences or popular culture.
  • Never contact a student outside of the classroom setting.
  • Be aware of how your students are interacting and intervene if you see inappropriate behavior.
  • Contact your manager immediately if you witness or suspect a student is a victim of sexual abuse or molestation.
  • Never speak to the media about any allegations or incidents - refer any media contacts to Play-Well management, who will interact with any media involved.

Once you report a suspected incident or victim to your manager, the Play-Well Risk Management Team will immediately inform law enforcement and/or Child Protective Services. We may contact local legal counsel for advice, and will follow up with the reporting agencies to discover resolution of the case. We will keep you informed of our discoveries.
